When I was a kid, the words from John 3:16 didn’t resonate with me as much as they do now. I mean, I got it, I was happy God sent Jesus because it meant we were saved, but as I get older, I see how amazing it was that God became one of us, walked with us… It blows my mind a little. I get how “big” this is so much more than I did as a kid.
One of the things I’ve been doing lately is reading the NIV Once a Day Bible for Women. I like the way they have it laid out and absorbing a nice do-able chunk each night before I go to sleep. One of the things that has been emphasized for me is how patient God has been with all of us. I mean…. wow, we really didn’t get it sometimes. Just when He promises something the people are all worshiping a calf statue or complaining… it makes me shudder because I see myself in this silliness. I see the people around me. We all do this. How annoyed God was with us! And yet, He sent his son…

Everything He’s done, all the commandments and the miracles and the promises, has been to get us to see the big picture and understand His love. It’s a hard concept for us. Hard for me sometimes. He loves me better than that huge mountain He made? Better than the sunset? Loved us so much He came right down here and experienced life as one of us? Wow.
Amen to that, Cherie. The Lord is so awesome. We are so special to Him in spite of our fallen, sinful nature…and He loves us more than all of His awesome creation.
