If you’re not familiar with the Psalms, this video from the Bible Project is a wonderful introduction.
It visually describes the book’s contents, literary design, the structure. Essentially, the Book of Psalms is a “Literary Temple,” where you can meet with God, share your laments and praise and confessions and have God’s words in reply shared back to you.
The Psalms (like all the Books of the Bible) are not meant to be read just once, but to be studied throughout our lifetime. They pull us deeper into understanding and relationship with God.
Each month, we do painting and art projects that are inspired by the Psalms in some way. I talk about the Psalm and then give you an art lesson where I demonstrate a project I’ve created with inspiration from the Psalms. Each month is different. The Psalms we choose vary, the projects are all different in scope, and since I’m a mixed media artist, I use a variety of different pigments, paints, and materials.
Painting the Psalms is for any skill level. You don’t need to have a knowledge of the Psalms or the Bible, either. Just come with an open heart to whatever God is telling you and allow yourself to settle into the gift of creativity. Join us!
