It’s hard when someone says “calm down” or “don’t worry.” Those words aren’t necessarily a comfort. But when God says them, they take on different meaning. The full verse of this is:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (NIV)
And that’s it right there: the peace of God. We cannot receive this type of comfort from anyone else, even the ones that love us most. He is in control, even in the midst of chaos. He is there with us. He tells us the ending, and as Marty Soloman of BEMA says, we need to “trust the story.”
