I’ve been reading “Praying the Psalms” by Eugene Peterson and this stood out to me today. I sometimes have a problem with feeling like I have to accomplish a lot in order to feel “productive,” but I need to check that attitude. Am I being productive in the way God wants? Do I acknowledge that everything I have and do is because of God?
I want my life to be in alignment with His purpose in my life, and when I “work hard” and “succeed,” even then it is to His credit. He grants abilities and opportunities. As the Psalmist notes, He allows us to lay our heads down at night and sleep.
Have you ever been working and feel like you’re “in the flow”? This, to me, is when we’re aligned with God. It feels good. Joyful.
But how about when you’re “pushing it”? You’re tired. Stressed. Spending time with God is the only way I can remind myself of what God wants for my life, even including how hard I work. As Peterson says above, “It is not a question of working or not working, but who is in charge.”
