I had been looking forward to “The Human Spirit” exhibit because I just knew it was going to be inspiring. And I was right! But I also got a surprise blessing at the exhibit, which made it even better.
At this exhibit, Tom Smith gave such an inspiring talk about his work and life. It was so beautiful and brave, and I was really moved. What an amazing way to open this exhibit.
The paintings in this collection of work where so uplifting. I’m always amazed by the talent in the League of Milwaukee Artists. I feel so blessed to be in this group of creative people. As I walked around the exhibit, I felt joy and hope. That is the power of art.
I have four paintings in this exhibit: Forgiveness Prayer, This Child Is Free, God Saw Her as Beautiful, and Her Earnest Prayers. To my great surprise, This Child Is Free received an honorable mention.
The judge remarked:
“This piece is a wonderful compliation which successfully layers a painted figure, with mixed media, and collage elements. The palette is rich, attractive, bright, and colorful, and I especially like the child-like quality of the figure and setting. Although motivated by a personal dream backstory, the piece visually stands by itself without explanation.”
The Human Spirit exhibit offered works by over 80 paintings by 40 artists. So to be recognized in this way was incredibly humbling and exciting for me.
This exhibit runs until May 10th, and I encourage you to get out and see it. There are paintings which will help you celebrate the beauty of life and offer hope and light.
