At the end of the night, I like to use up all the leftover paint on my palette by either starting a new canvas or adding it to my art journal.
If you have ever visited me in my craft booth, you’ve probably seen me doodling away at some point in my journal. I use art journals as a way to relax at the end of the night and also sketch out ideas for new pictures.
Last night, I used up a large blop of orange-y red paint by just putting it on my journal with my fingers. I use my fingers a lot in painting, because I like the design that finger prints create and also because it makes me feel good. I imagine that when I press my fingers onto the canvas I am placing my good intentions and blessings on that picture, and I hope that whoever buys the painting will feel that. (This is what I believe, anyways!) It blesses me to be able to do the art and so I want people to feel that positive emotion when they look at it.)
For the art journals, I randomly add paint to different pages because it creates a different starting point than the blank page. The art journals are always just for me. Everything I create in them is either just for fun or a way to work through ideas I have about new paintings. I also use these to write poetry in.
If you’ve got leftover paint and you don’t want to waste it, give it a try!
