It’s time for an awakening! What do you need to awaken from? Bad thoughts? Lack of beliefs? Poor habits?
I’ve been thinking about awakening. That word calls up images of opened eyes and brighter colors. It shows us that in our too-often closed off hearts, we have room for more… more joy… more goodness… more hope… if only we allow the awakening to happen.
I enjoyed creating this painting. I had my barky dog next to me while I painted:
“A kind of light spread out from her.
And everything changed color.
And the world opened out.
And a day was good to awaken to.
And there were no limits to anything.
And the people of the world were good and handsome.
And I was not afraid any more.”
― John Steinbeck, East of Eden
“Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back.
From then on, you are inflamed with a special longing
that will never again let you linger in the lowlands of complacency
and partial fulfillment.
The eternal makes you urgent.”― John O’Donohue, Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom
The scar is your awakening,
to you, and everyone who
crosses your path.
It says pay attention,
God showed me where
my heart had been buried.
