I feel very fortunate to have art and writing and creativity in my life. Each of us has some creativity in us (yes, you do!) and it can help you see the world differently. I find myself seeking out writing and art at different times, each of them helping me in different ways. Poetry is the constant there and perhaps the one thing that connects the two.
Lately, I’ve been really playing with my art in a way I haven’t in quite a while. I’ve gotten used to adding various types of papers and ephemera to my paintings, but I rarely mixed acrylics and oils and gelatos and ink… and lately I’ve been doing all of that. I love how it adds layers and unusual effects to the paintings. Gelatos and my Shiva oil sticks were always favorites of mine, but I love combining them now, and seeing how it changes a painting. Plus, I’m into the color more and that has me creating different types of animals and people. I hate to use the word “whimsy” but that’s how one art agent described it so I’ll go with that.
To me, it’s just about colors and designs that make you happy in some way.
