I working on the inside “walls” of my canvas paper house. I made the inside using a lot more white space than I did on the outside. Since this was my first attempt at this project, I am already thinking of ways I will change it next time. But it’s been fun so far.
I did a combination of pictures, writing, paint, and cutouts from books for the inside. Each thing has a special meaning for my aunt who I will give this to.
I’m not totally happy with the way this is turning out, mostly because I’m using ModgePodge to glue everything and next time I would use gloss medium. It’s very “stiff” right now and I’m not sure how it will work when I sew it all together. Still, I know my aunt will really like this. (Don’t we always like it when someone makes something especially for us?)
Next time I would experiment with different techniques, also. It’s all a process, you know? Anyways, next week I hope to show you the roof and maybe even the finished piece.

It’s very cool to see this coming together. I’m sure your aunt will love it! We are always our own worst critics.
Cherie says
Linette, you’re so right! I think that’s what makes us keep wanting to try to do better. Maybe?

I know some people swear by ModPodge, but I really prefer acrylic medium. No matter what though, your Aunt is going to love it!
Cherie says
Definitely acrylic gel medium next time.

I think it’s so pretty- and you are right- handmade gifts are the best ones! I wonder if you just gently “arched” the paper a little if it would loosen up a little? I think it’s always good to learn things when you are working on a new project- same thing happened to me with the felted bracelet- I was wishing I had made it a lot wider. I hope you show us the house all sewn together- I really want to see the final house! Oh yeah- I meant to say too that I love the way the colors on these pages look together 🙂
Cherie says
I will show the final – even if it’s goofed up! HA! Yeah, it’s about the learning as much as the doing. Thanks for the note about the colors!

Your aunt will love this. It’s so personalized and obviously done with a lot of love.
I coined a saying (at least I think it’s original): “Have you unleashed all your creative potential yet? Are you dead yet?”
Cherie says
Ha! Love that saying.
