It’s the week before Christmas,
and all through the house,
this crafter is working,
on a gift for her spouse.
I have one last little thing to work on for DH, and then I’m done. Mailed the ornaments, cards, scarves, napkins, and everything else I’ve made for people yesterday. Ah….
So now that I’m done buying and making for everyone else, I can’t help thinking of the things I hope people get me. LOL! If you’ve got a crafter on your list, here are some suggestions on what to get her for the holidays.
Buy Her Stuff
Most crafters I know these days sell stuff on Etsy, their website, or at craft fairs. Pick up an item or two and make your crafter happy!
Craft Books
I rarely buy craft books myself because I’m cheap, but I do ask Santa for them. This year my list included The Big-Ass Book of Crafts
, AlternaCrafts: 20+ Hi-Style Lo-Budget Projects to Make
, and even The Complete Book of Retro Crafts: Collecting, Displaying & Making Crafts of the Past
. I hope Santa gets me at least one of these books. If you have a crafter on your list, see if there is a book that might be perfect for them.
Gift Cards from JoAnn, Michaels, Hobby Lobby
They say gift cards stink as a gift, but if you have a crafter on your list, they will appreciate some free bucks to spend at their favorite craft store. Gift cards are especially good if you have to buy for someone far away. Last year I bought my auntie a gift certificate to JoAnn Fabrics and she was thrilled. She constantly makes great stuff for all of us and won’t take any money in return. It was one way I repay her for her beautiful handmade things. (Besides using them and displaying them and appreciating them! Which is why she really makes them.)
Craft Magazines
I have the same philosophy with magazines that I do with books. I just don’t purchase them. Some of the best craft magazines are really expensive. But this year I asked for Cloth Paper Scissors
, because I am in love with that magazine! Have you seen it? Have you seen the cool projects in there?
Those are my suggestions for the crafter in your life. What are some things you want this year?
I love the Big Ass Book of Crafts, and I think your other suggestions are right on. Great mag, and so is Somerset Studios. I am never more thrilled than when someone gives me a gift card to any of the three stores you have listed. I always feel like I somehow am more free to buy whatever I want then!
Hey Melody, thanks for commenting! The Big Ass Book of Crafts is the one I want the most. I’m really hoping to get that one.
And yeah, when you get a gift card, it’s like “woo-hoo! free money!” You don’t need to watch your pennies. The last I got I bought an embosser. I would have never done that, even though the thing is only $20. Because then I would have to have purchase embossing powder, stamping ink… etc… and I just wouldn’t have done it. But with my gift card? Got all of it!
I would love to get a gift of a craft magazine. A subscription is a gift that keeps giving all year long. Wish my hubby followed your blog like me š
Maybe you could leave one of those subscription postcards under his pillow.
I need to pass this list on to my husband. I would love to get any of these as a Christmas gift!
Yeah, maybe you could print this off and say to him, “I just read the most interesting article on crafting that I think you will appreciate” and then he’ll read it and say, “but it’s about gifts” and you could say “Exactly!”
hahaha
Great gift ideas! I’ve already received a gift card to Michael’s. I love being able to get whatever the current “in thing” for me is. Not sure what it will be when I go spend the money, but you can bet, I’ll be enjoying whatever I get!
