We put up our Christmas trees this weekend (and yes, I said trees… plural) and I thought I’d share one I particularly like with you.Incidentally, we put up nine trees this year. In the past we’ve had as many as twelve. As geeks, we collect things (I think that’s the first rule of geek, isn’t it?) and so we put up trees that showcase our collections.
One of the trees we started a few years ago was a Starbucks tree. We had our first coffee date (appropriately enough) at Starbucks, and the first year we were together we bought an ornament to commemorate the big event. Then, the following year we noticed they had new ornaments. (You can see how this thing got started.) Now, we have enough to put on a special tree that we keep on the kitchen table. Here’s an older picture of the first coffee tree we started.
I like the fact that every year the ornaments are different. Each design, even on the plastic cups and red ornaments, various slightly. I love the designs, and the fact that they have the year printed on the bottom of the ornament. We’ve added a couple red hats and some old-fashioned ice skates someone made way back in the day during one of our homemade ornament exchanges as a kid. The ice skates are made with felt, embroidery floss, and a paper clip. Cute no? Last year at Christmas a bunch of the cousins suggested we have another homemade gift exchange like we used to do. The problem is, now we’re all over the country so we’d have to mail everything. Besides that, we’re all so busy. Still, putting up the trees this weekend I spotted all their homemade ornaments and it really brought back the memories.
As far as this tree, believe it or not we are not the only ones that put one up like this. I know a couple of people who met at Starbucks, or at least had a special date there, and put up a Starbucks tree just like this. I have a feeling Starbucks is a pretty special place to a lot of couples.
The only problem with our tree is that we are missing a couple of the ornaments that would go back to the very beginning of our relationship. I did find a few on Amazonand eBay, however, so I’m sure we can find them. The hunt is on!

This is so cute! What a cute idea. I love the little mittens that Starbucks puts gift cards in (one year it was mittens, another year little cloth envelopes – all adorable). You could hang them on the tree, too!

Yes, I like those little mittens too! I think we have one on our tree too. Those envelopes you mentioned are adorable. Plus, this year I noticed they have little felt gift bags. So cute.
