Shows and Exhibits and Painting – Oh My! – My Instagram Roundup

October 1, 2018 Leave a Comment

Been a busy few weeks with shows and exhibits and just painting. Hello, remember painting? LOL It can be hard to fit it in with a full-time job, even when your full-time job is being an artist. Even so, I always make time. Painting is the fun part!

Reminder! The "Roots" Exhibit is still going on at the Wausau Center for the Visual arts. Here's a description: ____________ An artist's artistic, geographic, and cultural roots play significant roles in their artistic process and statement. The exhibit highlights original fine art inspired by an artist's perspective of their "roots" and artistic journey. ____________ My painting, "She Loved Art and Poetry" is in there, along with many other artists. Browse the selection or (hint!) pick up an original painting. ____________ Here's more about the exhibit: http://www.cvawausau.org/caroline-s-mark-gallery/

At the end of the night, I like to use up all the leftover paint on my palette by either starting a new canvas or adding it to my art journal. If you have ever visited me in my craft booth, you've probably seen me doodling away at some point in my journal. I use art journals as a way to relax at the end of the night and also sketch out ideas for new pictures. ____________ Last night, I used up a large blop of orange-y red paint by just putting it on my journal with my fingers. I use my fingers a lot in painting, because I like the design that finger prints create and also because it makes me feel good. I imagine that when I press my fingers onto the canvas I am placing my good intentions and blessings on that picture, and I hope that whoever buys the painting will feel that. (This is what I believe, anyways!) It blesses me to be able to do the art and so I want people to feel that positive emotion when they look at it.) ____________ For the art journals, I randomly add paint to different pages because it creates a different starting point than the blank page. The art journals are always just for me. Everything I create in them is either just for fun or a way to work through ideas I have about new paintings. I also use these to write poetry in. ____________ If you've got leftover paint and you don't want to waste it, give it a try! ____________

You guys, the “Artrageous Birds” exhibit at the Whitewater Arts Alliance starts next week! It goes through the end of September and has 72 art pieces by 26 artists from Wisconsin and Illinois. I've got three of my most favorite birdie paintings in this exhibit, so please head on out there and check them out!

The Space Between Dreaming is a moving novel written with warmth and heart and which contains valuable wisdom. I loved that the work tackles difficult topics about childlessness, childhood trauma, and betrayal by friends with sensitivity. It tenderly captures the social and emotional toll of being childless. I loved the main characters and found them to be realistic and engaging. The work masterfully explores the themes of friendships and relationships, drawing important lessons that can be applied in real life. The inclusion of art and the process of painting also enhance the story. Cherie Burbach's unforgettable novel will resonate with readers for its applicable themes and compelling characters. Fans of women's novels will love it.

Cherie Burbach's writing is surprisingly vivid, this being her debut attempt. She can take you inside the character's mind within a span of words, all the things they're struggling with put bare before you. The prose isn't flowery, but gentle enough to nudge you into relating your traumas too, and heal as the characters do.

Loved learning more about art, and the community surrounding the people in the book. Couldn't wait for the next chapter and following the women in this story. I am hoping the author has a second book in mind, to continue the journey of Jane and Grace. I would recommend this to book clubs, so they could meet and discuss what they read and what they think will happen next.

A beautifully written story about the lives of two very interesting women who come together and form a life long bond. I love how this book is written. I found myself placed in the story like I was an innocent bystander watching each moment unfold and learning more about art than I ever thought possible. As the book ended, I found myself wanting more. My hope is that there is a 2nd book in the works so I can continue watching the friendships unfold and the lives of the main characters continue to grow!
