Stay in the Light – My Instagram Roundup

June 1, 2018 Leave a Comment

Are you guys on Instagram? I am and LOVE it. (Connect with me there.)

I love it so much that I want to start doing a few roundups of my favorite posts regularly-ish for all your guys who come to my blog instead. This week, I’ve noticed a theme: I’m trying to stay positive. Things get very negative in this world, don’t they? But we (you and me and all of us!) can help spread light no matter where we are. Have a good weekend.

I don't often talk about negative stuff, but today I feel called to mention something. Naysayers. Downers. People who aren't kind unless you remind them over and over and over to be kind. We all have them. In a job like mine, I have many people who criticize, laugh, say hurtful things… just because it makes them feel good. _____________________ Like the ex-friend who comes to shows to pretend not to see me and laugh at my booth from across the aisle. Like the stranger who emails me to tell me all the negative things they think about my appearance, my voice, my intellect. Not everyone is going to like you, and that's okay, but I marvel that some people actually waste time on putting down others because it fills them with joy. _____________________ If I experience this, I know you do, too. And you know what? We need to focus on the good, the positive, the things that WE are put on this earth to do. While it's hard to deal with negativity, it would be worse if naysayers caused you to stop doing your art, your acts of kindness, and all the things that make this world a better place. _____________________ Next time you deal with arrogant, ignorant, or mean people…. remember, you aren't alone. Pray for them (as tough as that can be) and move on. The only way to remove darkness is by shining a light.

You guys, had a rough-ish day, not gonna lie. So I’ll be in my studio until construction on my blanket fort is finished.

It’s not unusual for someone to be moved to tears in the booth. Art (any art!) is powerful. It speaks to a different part of your heart and soul. Today we’ve had a few folks who picked up prints and started crying. Hugs to those who did. I’m blessed that my art will be in your home now. Thank you ?? ❤️? #itsokaytocry

You guys, doggie prints are popular today. A little girl just picked out one for her brand new “big girl” room. Loved hearing that. ❤️ #sosweet

I'm finally reading Mary Oliver's "Devotions" now and was reminded of this verse " ??? “I tell you this / to break your heart / by which I mean only / that it break open and never close again / to the rest of the world.” ??? Love her. ??? This original painting is available at @seebeckgallery, Pleasant Prairie.

Oh yes, I can definitely relate to this: ??? “If it weren't for painting, I wouldn't live; I couldn't bear the extra strain of things.” ~Winston Churchill

“The object isn’t to make art, it’s to be in that wonderful statement which makes art inevitable.” ~Robert Henri ??? This original available from The Colored Squid Gallery, Barrington, Illinois.

“The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can." -Neil Gaiman ??? This piece is on exhibit and available for sale at the Two Fish Gallery in Elkhart Lake, Wisc, until June 3rd.

Still laid up. Bummed. Had to cancel my class tomorrow, which was really hard for me. I felt like I was letting everyone down. (Besides that, it would have been fun!) I’m here on my bed resting, reading a magazine, while my dog growls at any noise she hears. ??? The quote on this page says “It takes two to speak the truth — one to speak, and another to hear.” (Thoreau) ??? Are you being heard in your relationships? Being heard means more than someone just listening once, and going back to being their clueless self after that. Then you tell them again, etc. That’s not truly hearing someone you love. Today, work on hearing in a way that lets someone know you really care. ❤️

“The main thing is to be moved, to love, to hope, to tremble, to live.” ~Auguste Rodin

There is always one popular image that seems to attract people at a craft show, and this image changes from show to show. Yesterday it was this one. I painted this because I've had an interesting life, born to one family, raised by another, had soul-filling reconciliations and some that brought me heartache. The road has not been straight, or simple, or easy. But I know that God has been there from the start. ❤️❤️❤️ If your road has been filled with twists and turns, know that there is a reason. That every day, you become the person you were meant to me and God is there with you, too. ❤️❤️❤️ xo

SOLD! Thank you. This little beauty was at Colored Squid Gallery and is off to a new home! I was inspired to paint this because "embrace" was my word of the year last year and I'm so happy that it will be a part of someone's home.

The Space Between Dreaming is a moving novel written with warmth and heart and which contains valuable wisdom. I loved that the work tackles difficult topics about childlessness, childhood trauma, and betrayal by friends with sensitivity. It tenderly captures the social and emotional toll of being childless. I loved the main characters and found them to be realistic and engaging. The work masterfully explores the themes of friendships and relationships, drawing important lessons that can be applied in real life. The inclusion of art and the process of painting also enhance the story. Cherie Burbach's unforgettable novel will resonate with readers for its applicable themes and compelling characters. Fans of women's novels will love it.

Cherie Burbach's writing is surprisingly vivid, this being her debut attempt. She can take you inside the character's mind within a span of words, all the things they're struggling with put bare before you. The prose isn't flowery, but gentle enough to nudge you into relating your traumas too, and heal as the characters do.

Loved learning more about art, and the community surrounding the people in the book. Couldn't wait for the next chapter and following the women in this story. I am hoping the author has a second book in mind, to continue the journey of Jane and Grace. I would recommend this to book clubs, so they could meet and discuss what they read and what they think will happen next.

A beautifully written story about the lives of two very interesting women who come together and form a life long bond. I love how this book is written. I found myself placed in the story like I was an innocent bystander watching each moment unfold and learning more about art than I ever thought possible. As the book ended, I found myself wanting more. My hope is that there is a 2nd book in the works so I can continue watching the friendships unfold and the lives of the main characters continue to grow!
