I was talking with a friend recently about people. Her people. Mine. And the word “busy.” She hates it, and so do I.
And I say that as someone that LOVES being busy and is pretty much always busy and has a calendar I write in and schedule time with people in and can’t live without. Sometimes I will schedule time way out just to make sure I have someone on my calendar so I don’t leave it to “when I have time.” Because, I’ll never just have random time. Neither will you. (If I have time, I’ll probably pop into the studio and paint.)
No, when it comes to keeping in touch I have to make time. But it is worth it. Giving them a call (a real, no text but “let’s hear your voice” call), sending them a handwritten note, and listening to them… just listening… that means so much in this world that gets sucked in by the loudmouths and the noise and the “show” of life that is very often not the real stuff. Not the hard stuff. And that is what we are all here for, to be there for each other through the fun times and the hard stuff. All of it. We need to make space for all of it and in order to do that we need to make time for people.
