If I could choose one reoccuring theme throughout my work I would say “hope.” I want people to feel hope through the use of bright colors and whimsical images. I choose to paint in a style that represents a world outside of this one, where I imagine that there is no pettiness and hatred, there is only joy and love.
It is this very attitude that gets me attacked sometimes. They downplay my art, they behave in a snarky or downright hateful way toward me, and they look at me as someone that is foolish and naive. They make assumptions about my life and everything I’ve been through. They mistake kindness and empathy for weakness.
But they are wrong, and that’s ok. They are the ones I want to encourage as much as anyone. ?
