Did some traveling recently, and one of the stops was a few lovely places in Memphis. It was my first time being there, and what struck me was how much history was there. Beale Street, Graceland, the numerous gardens and cafes, and even, sadly, the Lorainne Motel. It all held memory, some of it beautiful and some of it, like the Lorainne, deeply disturbing and heartbreaking.
But there is a spirit in the city that I found inspiring. One of the places I visited was the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis. They had a wonderful Impressionist collection and some soul-filling modern art like “The Dreamer” by Marc Chagall, which I have not been able to get out of my mind ever since I first stood before it.
The gardens at the museum are as beautiful and soul-filling as the art inside.
