This video still image is from my free ecourse, “10 Days of Devotions.”
In this image, I’m talking about 2 Timothy, which says:
“for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
2 Timothy 1:7 ESV
I see a lot of fear in this world, and I think that fact that this verse connects fear with self-control says an awful lot. We fear things that brings us outside our comfort zone, we fear things we don’t understand, we fear what is different than us.
In all these situations, our self-control might be harder to deal with. The longer we follow God, the more our level of self-awareness is raised, or at least, it should be. The more we should reflect Jesus, from the way he preached to how he acted. He always acted with self-control. Think of the times you lost your self-control: when someone makes you angry, when someone hurts you, when you are being treated poorly… and yet, Jesus did his job in showing us God’s love through his self control.
