While I’m partial to the Psalms, there are also many great verses in Song of Solomon. For this painting I was moved by Song of Solomon 2:14 (NIV).
“My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places on the mountainside, show me your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.”
I mean, seriously…. wow. This is a verse that celebrates God’s love for us. It reinforces His desire for us to pray to Him and praise Him.
I thought of an image of a flower smiling up to God. I feel that the animals and flowers praise him every bit as much as we do, and probably in a more authentic way sometimes.
I also thought of travel, and of our lifelong journeys. For this picture, I worked on a long canvas (15×30) and used a lot of oil sticks. They are such favorites of mine to use.
I like the depth and creaminess they provide.
I also used inks and acrylics.
Her petals are made from map pages.
I love the way her face turned out and the expression she has.
