A few years ago I was out in the backyard and the leaves from our neighbor’s tree were tumbling down slowly.
I really love being in the backyard. I feel like it is a place for me to push away the noise of life (social media, to-do lists, obligations) and I can just quiet my mind and connect with God.
As I stood there the leaves were coming down around me and I just stood there, taking in that moment. It felt like heaven to me.
GRACEFULLY DANCING
The autumn leaves
fall from the maple tree,
like golden tears of joy,
they fall gracefully
dancing all the way down
before landing at my feet,
like a polite child
that says,
“Hello, pleased to meet you.”
Layers upon layers shred
as I hold out my hands
trying to catch each leaf,
and I take in the beauty
of brown branches,
standing proudly in the sunlight
and shield my eyes
as the tree says,
“This is me.”
