Here come real stars to fill the upper skies,
And here on earth come emulating flies,
That though they never equal stars in size,
(And they were never really stars at heart)
Achieve at times a very star-like start.
Only, of course, they can’t sustain the part.”
― Robert Frost, The Poetry of Robert Frost
I did the Firefly Art Fair over the weekend and it was such a great time. We were blessed with good weather, ya’ll! The forecast called for rain at least part of the weekend, but we didn’t experience a single drop. Thank you, Jesus!
So nice weather brought nice crowds… and it was a good fair. Got to see some very sweet people I’ve known since I was a little girl:
They were a “safe place” for me, then and now. I lived next door to them and hung out there often. We’ve kept in touch ever since.
I also got to visit with a lot of other artists, which really fills my soul. I enjoy learning about how others create and which shows they’ve done, and find the whole thing very inspiring. So for me, doing these shows is a valuable way to meet other artists.
But mostly, it’s about the art, and talking with people and finding out what they like. It’s interesting that some people are very quiet about what they purchase. Their art choices are personal and perhaps more private. Others are vocal about what they like and that is helpful for me, too.
And do you love our new tent? Our trusty old blue one bit the dust, so I had to get a new one. I like this white one so much better. It brightens up everything. We took the flags I had at one of the indoor shows I did and used them on the outside of this.
I got a lot of comments on “the vibe” of my tent and how people felt comfortable in there, and that is exactly what I want for my art. I want it to be accessible and comfortable, something that you aren’t intimidated by or afraid of. I want my booth to welcome people and my art to make them good about life.
