Are you guys on Instagram? I am, and love it. (Follow me there!) I love the visual nature of Instagram and that people share all the silly, fun, creative parts of themselves there. The site has a different feel than other social media outlets do. It is not political or negative and seems to be just filled with visual moments of joy.
I follow a bunch of artists and poets there (of course!) and wanted to give you a glimpse of what things are like there. You guys know that my life hasn’t always been easy. It certainly didn’t start that way. But I try to be thankful for all things. They all bring you to the place you are now.
To that end, my father’s life was a big influence on me, although I’m sure he didn’t intend it as such. His life was filled with booze and anger and bitterness and things, and mine is quite the opposite.
My life is filled with moments, most that seem quite ordinary to people who don’t know me. The ones that do know me would agree that after years of struggle as a kid, I am an adult who enjoys the simple things in life, like snuggling with my puppy, making soup for my husband, painting, and writing poetry.
For me, there is nothing better than the beauty that is in a simple gesture of kindness or act of love so small it might go unnoticed if you weren’t paying attention. But I do pay attention, as often as I can, because the example of my father’s life shows me that life is too beautiful to be wished away with the want of bigger things.
