I’m still using that rummage sale fabric I got for a quarter. I can’t believe how far it’s gone. I used it to make some pillows and cocktail napkins, and for the final piece I decided to make a table runner.
Since it’s St. Patty’s Day, I thought it might be fun to make a table runner to go over this cute table cloth that one of my friends gave me last year. I had some blue and green toile material and also some green checked stuff, so I used that for one side of the runner, and used up the extra piece of rummage sale fabric for the other. I even found a couple little tassels for $1. How great is that?
These are very forgiving to make. You don’t need a pattern, and you can use up leftover pieces of material. Just put right sides together and leave the short end open so you can turn it inside out. For the length, measure your table and determine how much you want to hang over the edge. To whatever number you come up with, add two inches to the total for sewing.

I love how the various fabric patterns come together so well. And all from your stash – what a deal!
Cherie says
Yeah, it’s great when you can use up the “stash!”

Now that’s what I call gettin it all together! What a wonderful job and simple explanation that makes it easy to put together! Thank you.

Aw, thanks, Barbara!

Hi Cherie! I love your table runner- and how great that you can have two different looks depending on the side you use! I am also trying to use up my stash of craft materials- isn’t it great when something works out and it’s not sitting in the cupboard anymore? Nice to meet you!!
Cherie says
Nice to meet you, too, Kim!
Yeah, having a stash is great, but only if it doesn’t collect dust. 🙂 That rummage sale fabric was just the boost I needed to make it all work.

Thank you! I’ve read many table runner tutorials and no one has ever made it sound doable and even possibly easy. This is just the sort of thing I’ve been looking for.
Your sewing is lovely, it must feel terrific to make such beautiful things for your home.

Aw, Nicole, you’re so sweet. Table runners are very forgiving, so they are easy to do.
