I’m an Eiffel Tower nut. Seriously. I have them all over my house and can’t resist buying anything with the Eiffel Tower structure on it. Trinkets, stationery, you name it.
So when you have a hobby like that, why not start a blog? haha That seems to be my answer for everything because I love starting and managing blogs. A few years ago I started a blog called Eiffel Trifle, which was about all those cool trinkets and bits that featured the Eiffel Tower. It was a blogish ecommerce site, and I loved writing it.
The only problem was that I was always way behind on updating it. Getting the right pictures and links were a pain because I did it all manually. I needed a genuine ecommerce site, not just a blog. In fact, a lot of my blogs need that, because I do talk a lot about products and recommendations on things. I have always been a “sneezer” of shorts (for those of you familiar with Seth Godin’s books) and love to try things and get the word out. I like talking about mistakes so others can avoid them and then talking about how things got better. (Because it’s all about striving for something better, not complaining about what doesn’t work.)
Anywho, I decided to fully convert Eiffel Trifle from a blog only to an ecommerce site. I downloaded a few helpful WordPress plugins, and spent hours teaching myself some very handy coding tricks. This old dog still can learn, even when she really doesn’t feel like it. But I’ve recommitted myself to my own forms of earning an income (books, blogs, ecourses) and decided to start with my beloved Eiffel Trifle.
Seeing this site really come to life reminded me of our honeymoon, where I finally got to see Paris and visit the Eiffel Tower. It was one of the best times in my entire life. I had never been anywhere before really, and to see the one spot I’ve always wanted to travel to was quite a thrill!
So here it is!
Love the cleaner look, and that shop! Oh, I really love that. As I was adding things to it I kept stopping and staring… how I wanted to buy stuff…. I’m hoping that my Eiffel Trifle site is as much of a guilty pleasure to another Eiffel Tower freak as it has been for me. Just creating it and looking at all the goodies was really fun.
But this past week has also been filled with techie stuff… coding, site audits, running scripts… I joke that I feel like a dog watching TV, I had no idea what I’m doing sometimes but I forge ahead and do it anyways. I’m determined to make the most of this blogging life in every way. I’ve started blogs, flipped them, revamped them… and this is again a new phrase. Will it pan out as I hope? Only time will tell. But the way my mind and expertise has been stretched is good no matter how things play out.
